ACE TELESCOPE MOUNTS True research-grade mounts designed for heavy payload capacity, minimal flexure, high stability and rapid movement. Our mounts use friction roller drives for zero-backlash. Typical tracking performance is better than 0.75 arc seconds in 5 minutes and better than 5 seconds in 1 hour, open-loop, without correction from an auto-guider or a telescope ephemeris. We use on-axis encoders with resolution <0.1 arc seconds and servo motors with resolution of 0.040 arc seconds to provide exceptionally smooth tracking and slew rates of up to 15 degrees per second. Objects are tracked using an auto-guider or a telescope ephemeris which determines the instrumental position of the telescope (taking into account refraction, pointing errors, flexure, non-sidereal rates, etc), and servo-locks the encoders to the updated theoretical position every 100ms. Our equatorial heads are fabricated from 10mm steel plate, fully welded, and use precision roller bearings with heavy duty axles. For instance, a mount for a 0.6-m telescope uses a polar axle with a 100mm bore and a 170mm outside diameter. More information is available by calling our design team.
